Sub: Prescription of Generic Medicine through Dhanwantri (HIS) -Reg. Sir/Madam, This is to inform you that, in line with the decision that all prescriptions issued in ESIC / ESIS Hospitals and Dispensaries must be prescribed in generic names through the Dhanwantri (HIS) application, the necessary enhancements have been implemented in the application. Earlier, the system provided options for prescribing both generic and branded medicines; however, the module has now been modified to allow prescription of only generic medicines. The updated module will be rolled out in Dhanwantri (HIS) from 09.03.2026. As per the system requirement, each doctor is required to select the appropriate store facility from which OPD medicines will be dispensed. Currently, the available store facility option is visible in the system. This configuration is essential to ensure that prescriptions are correctly routed to the appropriate pharmacy and to avoid any dispensing or stock-related issues. To map the OPD Pharmacy, all doctors may use the “Define Store for OPD Pharmacy” configuration available in the HIS system. To access the generic names of branded drugs, users may refer to the Store Reports module in the HIS system. A user manual on the usage of the newly deployed Generic Medicine Module is enclosed for the information of all concerned. All Dean/Medical Superintendents (MS) are requested to bring this to the notice of all doctors along with the user manual. Arrangements for online

are requested to inform all Medical Superintendents (MS) of ESIS Hospitals and Nodal Officers of Dispensaries about the rollout of the Generic Medicine Module and to ensure its use for prescribing medicines in generic names. This issues with the approval of the competent authority.

User Manual for Generic Medicine Prescription in Dhanwantari Module Version 1.1

Objective The objective of this manual is to outline the workflow for prescribing medicines strictly in their generic names within the Dhanwantari Module. This manual shall serve as a reference for all Insurance Medical Officers (IMOs) and authorized clinical users to ensure uniform, compliant, and transparent prescription practices across ESIC healthcare facilities. This workflow has been configured in the Dhanwantari Module in accordance with directions received from the user division. Scope This manual applies to all ESIC and ESIS dispensaries and hospitals using the Dhanwantari Module for Out-Patient and In-Patient prescriptions. 2 Version 1.1 Created On : 20-02-2026

Accessing Medication List The Medications section allows IMOs to search and add medicines using the approved Generic Drug Database. Only generic formulations mapped with their strength, dosage form, and route of administration will appear. The user shall:

1. Enter a minimum of three characters of the generic name in the Search Field.
2. Select the desired formulation from the drop-down list.
3. Verify dosage strength and frequency before addition. Adding Medicines To prescribe a medicine:

• Open Add Medication
• Search using the generic name only (e.g., Paracetamol, not Crocin or Dolo).
• Select strength and route.
• Click “Add to Prescription.”
