The Central Board of Direct Taxes amends the Income-tax Rules, 1962 to allow permanent account number allotment through Aadhaar intimation. Any person who possesses the Aadhaar number and quotes it in lieu of a permanent account number is deemed to have applied for allotment without submitting separate documents. A person may also apply for a permanent account number by intimating the Aadhaar number to the authorities. The Principal Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or Director General of Income-tax (Systems) authenticates the Aadhaar number and sets formats and procedures for secure data capture and transmission.
