The Central Board of Direct Taxes amends the Income-tax Rules, 1962 to revise procedures for declarations regarding tax deduction. The rules substitute rule 29C and update Form No. 15G and Form No. 15H. Persons responsible for paying income must allot a unique identification number to each received declaration. They must report particulars and unique identification numbers in quarterly TDS statements even when tax is not deducted. Payors must not accept declarations when income exceeds the maximum amount not chargeable to tax. Income-tax authorities may require persons to furnish declarations for verification before the end of seven years from the end of the financial year.
