The Central Board of Direct Taxes amends the Income-tax Rules, 1962 to mandate Permanent Account Number applications for certain resident entities and their key officials engaging in large financial transactions, and updates parent details in Form No. 49A and Form No. 49AA. A resident person other than an individual entering into a financial transaction of two lakh fifty thousand rupees or more in a financial year must apply for a Permanent Account Number on or before the thirty-first day of May immediately following that financial year. Managing directors, directors, partners, trustees, and other principal officers of such entities must also apply for a Permanent Account Number by the same deadline if they do not hold one. Individual applicants may furnish the mother's name alone on the application form when the mother is a single parent.

G.S.R. 1128(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 139A read with section 295 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), the Central Board of Direct Taxes hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Income-tax Rules, 1962, namely:—
(II) in Appendix II, in Form number 49A and Form number 49AA, for serial number 6 and entries relating thereto, the following serial number and entries thereto shall be substituted, namely:— “6. Details of Parents (applicable only for individual applicants) Whether mother is a single parent and you wish to apply for PAN by furnishing the name of your mother only? Yes No (please tick as applicable) If yes, please fill in mother’s name in the appropriate space provide below. Father’s Name (Mandatory except where mother is a single parent and PAN is applied by furnishing the name of mother only) Last Name / Surname
