FSSAI updates 14-20 September 2026: sample report timelines

The Laboratory and Sample Analysis Amendment Regulations, 2026, effective 1 April 2027, cover analysis timelines, methods of analysis and testing report formats. Food analysts and referral laboratories must report regulatory samples within 14 days, and import analysis within five days of receipt, or give written reasons if they miss a deadline.

FSSAI told notified referral laboratories to report appeal-sample results to the designated officer or central licensing authority within 14 working days of receipt. States and Union Territories must base recall evaluations on those results.

FSSAI appointed six designated officers for central licensing in the Western Region, covering Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. It appointed Shri Chakka Lakshmi Pathi for South Western Railway and Dr. Md. Tanweeruddin for East Central Railway from 18 September 2026, and notified an authorised officer for imports under section 25 and section 47(5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

FSSAI removed 17 entries from the notified food-analyst list and added 56, amending the notification of 2 July 2021.
