The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India directs all general insurers and stand-alone health insurers to take immediate steps for the quick registration and settlement of insurance claims for victims of Cyclone Nivar in calamity-affected areas. Insurers must nominate a senior officer as a nodal officer for affected states to coordinate claim processing and maintain contact with state government officers. Insurers must survey all claims immediately, disburse payments within stipulated timelines, engage adequate surveyors, and launch awareness campaigns. Insurers must also encourage policyholders to use electronic communication and digital processes for claim intimation and document filing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Re: Guidelines on Insurance claims of victims of Cyclone Nivar (Nov,2020) in the calamity affected areas.
As you are aware, cyclone Nivar (Nov,2020) has caused loss to property in some parts of the country. The General Insurers may have issued policies for protection of lives and property located in the affected areas. There is an urgent need for the insurance industry to take immediate steps to mitigate the hardships of the affected insured population by ensuring immediate registration and settlement of eligible claims.
