The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India conducts the examination for Surveyors and Loss Assessors in the on-line mode instead of the off-line mode. The Authority introduces this change from the next financial year 2017-18. Applicants who seek a license as a surveyor and loss assessor take the examination through the new on-line system. The Insurance Institute of India or another recognized institute conducts the examination.

Sub: On-line examination for Surveyors and Loss Assessors.
The procedure for granting license to Surveyors and Loss Assessors is defined in IRDAI (Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations, 2015. Regulation 3(2)(c) of the said Regulations refers to examination i.e. passing of relevant paper(s) of 'Surveyor and Loss Assessor Examination' conducted by the Insurance Institute of India (III), Mumbai or any other Institute recognized by the Authority.
At present, the examination is being conducted by III, twice a year, on off-line mode. Representations were received for conduct of the examination on-line instead of off-line. Surveyors and Loss Assessors Committee constituted under IRDAI (Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations, 2015 in the meeting held on 27^th May, 2016, observed that except Surveyors examination, all the insurance intermediary examinations have moved to on-line mode and recommended that surveyors examination also be conducted on-line.
After due consideration of the recommendation, it has been decided to conduct on-line examination for grant of license for Surveyors and Loss Assessors from the next financial year i.e. FY 2017-18.
The above clarifications are issued under the powers vested with the Authority in Section 14 (2) of IRDA Act, 1999 read with 26 of IRDAI (Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations, 2015.
