The National Stock Exchange updates the threshold limits for currency derivatives contracts involving the Indian Rupee. Domestic clients and Foreign Portfolio Investors may now take long or short positions up to a single limit of USD 5 million without establishing underlying exposure. This limit applies to the total notional value across all currency pairs and all recognized stock exchanges. Foreign Portfolio Investors must ensure short positions do not exceed this USD 5 million limit. To exceed this threshold for long positions, Foreign Portfolio Investors must hold underlying exposure in Indian debt or equity securities. Domestic clients must follow conditions specified in Reserve Bank of India directives to exceed the USD 5 million limit. Stock exchanges and clearing corporations must update their systems and rules to implement these changes.
