Check the official recordThe Reserve Bank of India has assigned Lead Bank responsibilities for five newly created districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh: Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass. Following the notification of these districts by the UT Administration on April 27, 2026, the State Bank of India has been designated as the Lead Bank for all five new districts. The RBI has also allotted specific District Working Codes to each of these new administrative units to facilitate banking operations. There are no changes to the Lead Bank responsibilities for existing districts in the Union Territory.

Formation of new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh – Assignment of Lead Bank Responsibility
The Administration of Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh has notified formation of five new districts, viz., Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass in the UT of Ladakh vide Gazette Notification SG-LD-E-27042026-1712 dated April 27, 2026. Accordingly, it has been decided to designate the Lead Bank of the new districts as below:
