Reserve Bank of India (Local Area Banks – Prudential Norms on Declaration of Dividend) Directions, 2026
Summary
Check the official recordThe Reserve Bank of India establishes prudential norms for Local Area Banks regarding dividend declaration. These directions apply to all Local Area Banks starting from the financial year 2026-27. Banks must meet specific capital adequacy requirements and maintain positive adjusted Profit After Tax to qualify for dividend payments. The Board of Directors must evaluate asset classification, audit reports, and capital positions before proposing a dividend. The maximum dividend payout depends on the Capital to Risk-Weighted Assets Ratio of the bank. Certain profits, including extraordinary income and unrealized gains, are ineligible for dividend distribution. Banks must report dividend details to the Department of Supervision within two weeks of declaration. Non-compliance may result in supervisory or enforcement actions.
