The Central Government exempts non-residents and foreign companies from the requirement of furnishing an income tax return from Assessment Year 2019-20 onwards. The exemption applies when the persons earn income from an investment fund set up in an International Financial Services Centre. The investment fund must deduct tax at source under section 194LBB and remit the tax to the Central Government. The persons must not have any other income that makes them liable to file a tax return. The exemption does not apply if a notice under section 142, 148, 153A, or 153C is issued for the assessment year.
