Check the official recordThe Telecom Commission, established in 1989, was re-designated as the Digital Communications Commission in 2018. The Commission is responsible for formulating telecommunications policy, preparing the annual budget for the Department of Telecommunications for government approval, and implementing government policy on telecommunications. It comprises a Chairman, who is the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, three full-time members (Finance, Services, and Technology), and four part-time members representing NITI Aayog, the Department of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, and the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion. Commission meetings are not open to the public.
