Subject: Direction under Section 16 (5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 regarding enforcement of the new standards for Meat Sausages notified under Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025 – reg.
Reference is drawn to direction dated 30.01.2026 issued vide F.No. STD/43-FA-Notifications/2024 wherein the compliance period for the provision relating to new standards for Meat Sausages under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025 was extended for a period of three months from the date of enforcement i.e. 1st February, 2026.
In this context, representations have been received from the meat industry highlighting technical and practical challenges in complying with the new standards for the preparation of meat sausages for which a comprehensive scientific study to address these challenges is underway, along with requests for extension of the compliance timeline for these standards.
After due consideration of the implementation challenges faced by the Food Business Operators (FBOs) and pending study result for risk assessment, it has been decided to further extend the compliance period for the standards of Meat Sausages for a period of six months from 1st May, 2026.
This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 16 (5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

This is regarding compliance period for the provision relating to new standards for Meat Sausages under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025.
The Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025 were published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part III, Section 4, vide notification number F. No. STD/43-FA-Notifications/2024 dated 10th July, 2025 with compliance from 1st February, 2026.
Subsequent to the issuance of the final notification, several representations were received from the meat industry highlighting technical and practical challenges in complying with the new standards for the preparation of meat sausages, along with requests for extension of the compliance timeline for these standards.
After due consideration of the representations received from the Food Business Operators (FBOs), it has been decided to extend the compliance period for the standards of Meat Sausages by a further period of three months from 1st February, 2026.
