The Medical Boards constituted under Section 37 of the Code on Social Security, 2020, are required to examine and assess Insured Persons in cases where such examination is prescribed for determination of entitlement to benefits under the Code and the regulations made thereunder.
With a view to ensuring uniformity in the constitution and functioning of Medical Boards, regular conduct of the Boards and timely disposal of cases of Insured Persons, the Competent Authority has approved the following arrangements with immediate effect:
The Fixed Medical Board shall ordinarily be convened at least once every month. As far as practicable, the meeting shall be scheduled on the first Tuesday of every month from 09:00 AM to 02:00 PM , subject to availability of the required members and administrative convenience. The concerned Medical Superintendent shall ensure regular conduct of the Board and timely consideration of the cases placed before it. The Fixed Medical Board shall be constituted as follows:

The Rotational Peripatetic Medical Board shall be convened at different ESIC/ESIS Hospitals, as per the requirement, with a view to extending Medical Board facilities to areas where a Fixed Medical Board is not available and to facilitate consideration of cases arising from outlying and geographically distant areas. The frequency and venue of such Boards shall be determined based on the number of pending cases, geographical coverage, accessibility for Insured Persons and other operational requirements, so as to ensure timely and convenient disposal of cases. Whenever such Board is convened at a particular location, the Medical Superintendent of the ESIC/ESIS Hospital at that location shall function as the Chairman of the Board and SMO shall coordinate with the concerned RO/SRO and the Medical Superintendent for scheduling and conduct of the Board. The Rotational Peripatetic Medical Board shall ordinarily comprise the following members:

The Special Medical Board for cases relating to Occupational Disease shall continue to be convened only at the designated ESIC Hospitals/Occupational Disease Centres notified for the purpose. The constitution and functioning of such Boards shall be governed by the provisions of the relevant Occupational Disease Manual and the instructions issued by the Corporation from time to time. Wherever required, a technical/domain expert may be included in the Special Medical Board, in addition to the prescribed members, in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Occupational Disease Manual. The existing arrangements relating to the designated Occupational Disease Centres and the constitution of Special Medical Boards shall continue to remain in force unless specifically modified or superseded by separate orders issued by the competent authority.
These instructions shall come into force with immediate effect and shall be complied with by all concerned ESIC/ESIS Hospitals and Regional/Sub-Regional Offices.
