The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change amends the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. The amendment removes the entry for brine sludge from the list of hazardous wastes. Specifically, the authority deletes the entry 16.3 Brine sludge from column (3) of the table in Schedule I. This entry previously appeared under the process of production of caustic soda and chlorine at serial number 16. The rules take effect on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

सा.का.जन. 636(अ).— पर्ाावरण (संरक्षण) जनर्म, 1986 के जनर्म 5 के उप जनर्म (4) र्ह उपबंध करता है दक िब भी केंद्रीर् सरकार को ऐसा प्रतीत होता है दक ऐसा करना लोकजहत में है, तो वह पर्ाावरण (संरक्षण) जनर्म, 1986 के जनर्म 5 के उप जनर्म (3) के खंड (क) के अधीन सूचना की अपेक्षा को समाप्त कर सकेगी; और केंद्रीर् सरकार की र्ह रार् है दक पररसंकटमर् और अन्र् अपजिष्ट (प्रबंध और सीमापार संचलन) जनर्म, 2016 में संिोधन के जलए पर्ाावरण (संरक्षण) जनर्म, 1986 के जनर्म 5 के उप जनर्म (3) के खंड (क) के अधीन सूचना की अपेक्षा को समाप्त करना लोक जहत में है। अब, अत:, केंद्रीर् सरकार पर्ाावरण (संरक्षण) जनर्म, 1986 के जनर्म 5 के उप-जनर्म (4) के साथ परित पर्ाावरण (संरक्षण) अजधजनर्म, 1986 (1986 का 29) की धारा 6, धारा 8 और धारा 25 द्वारा प्रित्त िजिर्ों का प्रर्ोग करते हुए, पररसंकटमर् और अन्र् अपजिष्ट (प्रबंध और सीमापार संचलन) जनर्म, 2016 में संिोधन करने के जलए जनम्नजलजखत और जनर्म बनाती है, अथाात् :— सं. 577] नई दिल्ली, बृहस्ट् पजतवार, िुलाई 16, 2026/आषाढ 25, 1948

MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 16th July, 2026
G.S.R. 636(E).— Whereas sub-rule (4) of the rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 provides that whenever it appears to the Central Government that it is in the public interest to do so, it may dispense with the requirement of notice under clause (a) of sub-rule (3) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986; And Whereas the Central Government is of the opinion that it is in the public interest to dispense with the requirement of notice under clause (a) of sub-rule (3) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 for amending the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6, 8 and 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986) read with sub-rule (4) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016, namely :—
Note. — The principal rules were published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (i), vide number G.S.R. 395(E), dated the 4th April, 2016 and last amended vide the notification number G.S.R. 438(E), dated the 1st July, 2025.
